What Is a Bid Validity Period?

The period during which the supplier is bound by its bid after the tender deadline has passed.

How long is a bid typically valid?

Usually three to six months after the tender deadline, as stated in the procurement documents. Complex procurements may require longer.

What happens if the buyer has not decided before it expires?

The buyer must ask bidders to extend their validity. A bidder that declines is no longer bound by its bid and drops out of the competition.

Can a supplier withdraw a bid during the validity period?

Not without consequences. The bid is binding, and withdrawing may expose the supplier to a claim. Before the deadline, however, a bid can normally be withdrawn and replaced.
