What Is a Closed Framework?
This is a UK procurement term. A standard framework set up once and then shut to new suppliers for its lifetime, usually a maximum of four years.
How long can a closed framework last?
Generally up to four years, or up to eight years for defence and security and utilities frameworks.
Can new suppliers join a closed framework?
No. Once it is set up, no new suppliers can be added during its term.
How does it differ from an open framework?
An open framework reopens to new suppliers at set points, while a closed framework stays fixed for its whole life.
