What Is a General Contractor (Generalunternehmer, Germany)?
This is a German procurement term. A company that takes on the entire construction service and may subcontract parts of it.
What is a Generalunternehmer?
A contractor that takes on the whole construction project under one contract and performs part of the work itself, subcontracting the rest.
Is the GU model compatible with lot division?
Only with justification. The GWB requires division into specialist lots as the rule, so a general contractor award needs documented economic or technical reasons.
How does it differ from a Generalübernehmer?
A Generalunternehmer performs part of the work itself. A Generalübernehmer performs none and only coordinates subcontractors.
