What Is a Procurement Officer?
The term used for staff employed by a contracting authority who work on procurement.
What does a procurement officer do?
Plans and runs procurements on behalf of the buyer: market analysis, drafting the tender documents, handling questions, running the evaluation and preparing the award decision.
Is the procurement officer the same as the purchaser?
Not usually. The procurement officer runs the competition. The purchaser uses the resulting contract and places orders.
Can a supplier contact the procurement officer?
During the competition, only through the official channel for questions, so that all suppliers receive the same information. Outside a live competition, contact is normal and often welcome.
