The Swedish Public Procurement Architecture Market
After a tough few years, the architecture market is stabilising. The latest trends in the private and public markets, together with Byggfakta.

Please note: this report is for the Swedish market and is in Swedish.
The architecture industry has been hit hard by the recession. In the second half of 2023 the figures bottomed out at -50 per cent on the design index – that is, 50 per cent lower estimated future construction costs entering the design phase compared with the previous 12-month period. In the public market, spending on architecture firms fell markedly in 2021 and 2022.
Fresh figures now show that the decline is slowing. Towards the end of 2023 and the start of 2024 the trend has stabilised and the design index has turned slightly upwards, although it remains negative. Public spending on architecture firms rose by around 6 per cent in 2023 to SEK 1.8 billion.
